Movement is woven into the rhythm of each day, with practices designed to meet you where you are and offer something different each time.
Expect a blend of dynamic, energising Vinyasa flows and slower, more grounding practices that invite you to turn inward. At the heart of every session is the connection between breath and movement, creating space to explore the body, build strength, move with curiosity, and leave feeling both empowered and at ease.
Breathwork and meditation are naturally woven into the practices, encouraging a deeper sense of awareness both on and beyond the mat.
All levels of experience are welcome. Every practice will offer space to adapt, explore, and move in a way that feels right for you.
All sessions are taught in English.
Your Yoga Instructor
Vanessa has been teaching yoga for over 15 years, with a practice shaped by a lifelong curiosity for movement and wellbeing.
Swiss-South African and based between Zürich and Hamburg, Vanessa has spent much of her life living and travelling around the world. Her own yoga journey has been equally international, learning from teachers across different cultures, traditions, and approaches to movement.
Her teaching draws on this experience alongside a background in Vinyasa, Ashtanga, prenatal yoga, fitness, and other movement practices. Her classes balance strength and fluidity with mindfulness, encouraging students to explore what their bodies are capable of while remaining connected to breath and sensation.
At Marsi Retreats, Vanessa brings these influences together to create practices that feel energising yet grounding—leaving space for challenge, curiosity, stillness, and simply enjoying the experience of moving.
Food is at the heart of Italian life, and it will be at the heart of your time with us.
Spring brings freshness and colour back to the table. Throughout the retreat, our meals will take inspiration from the season and the Italian kitchen, with fresh produce, simple recipes prepared with care, and generous dishes designed to be passed around and shared.
Mornings begin with a nourishing breakfast and plenty of coffee. Lunches and dinners bring everyone back around the table, with seasonal vegetables, salads, homemade dishes, freshly baked bread, fragrant herbs and the flavours of Tuscany.
Our approach to nourishment is not about restriction or rules. It is about eating well, enjoying what is in season and taking the time to truly savour it.
And just as importantly, it is about conviviality: plates passed from one person to another, glasses filled, conversations continuing long after the meal is finished, and strangers gradually becoming friends.
Come for the movement, landscape and Mediterranean air. You may find yourself staying around the table.
The Italian Kitchen
From Countryside to Coast
One of the things that makes Marsiliana so special is its position between the Tuscan countryside and the Mediterranean Sea.
In spring, Maremma invites you outdoors. The landscape surrounding the Castello is green and full of life, while the nearby coastline offers a completely different side of the region—open horizons, sea air and another perspective on southern Tuscany.
Throughout the retreat, we’ll make time to experience more than the Castello itself, with curated opportunities to explore the landscapes, places and traditions that make this part of Italy so distinctive.
And when you’d rather stay closer to home, the gardens, courtyards and grounds of Marsiliana are yours to enjoy.
Your Home in Maremma
For four nights, Castello di Marsiliana becomes your home.
Originally a monastery and part of the same family for generations, the Castello is an expansive historic property surrounded by the landscapes of Maremma. Inside, rooms, hallways and shared spaces carry the character of a home that has been lived in and loved over time; outside, courtyards, gardens and the surrounding countryside offer plenty of space to wander and find a corner of your own.
This is not a hotel stay. It is an invitation into a much-loved home—and an opportunity to experience a side of Tuscany that feels personal, authentic and deeply connected to place.

Early May is a beautiful time to experience Maremma, with lush green landscapes, wildflowers in bloom and increasingly warm, sunny days.
Daytime temperatures typically range between 18–23°C, while mornings and evenings can be cooler, often around 9–13°C. Spring weather can be changeable, with occasional rain, so we recommend bringing a few layers, a light jacket and comfortable shoes for exploring.
It's a wonderful season for spending time outdoors, enjoying the countryside and discovering the nearby Mediterranean coast, before the summer heat arrives.

Come prepared for movement, time outdoors, and relaxed days at the Castello. We recommend comfortable yoga and activewear, light layers for cooler mornings and evenings, walking shoes for exploring the countryside, and a light waterproof jacket in case of spring showers.
With warmer days and the Mediterranean coast nearby, we also suggest bringing swimwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a sun hat.
Bring comfortable clothes for meals and evenings, as well as anything that helps you settle into your downtime—a favourite book, journal, or something cozy to wear.
Yoga mats and props will be provided, so there’s no need to bring your own unless you prefer to.
